Steve is the first (currently known) superhero of his world, enhanced by the super soldier serum in 1943 in order to fight in World War 2. In 1945, he froze in the middle of the Arctic and was presumed dead until 2012, when he was unearthed by a research team and revived. In the years since he has saved the world from an invasion by aliens and formed the superhero team the Avengers, and has joined the American government agency SHIELD as a special forces operative. Most recently, he found that his old enemy HYDRA had infiltrated SHIELD since its inception and turned his best friend, who he'd presumed dead, into a brainwashed assassin. After destroying SHIELD and doing his best to get through to his friend, he dropped his shield and fell to his death... And then woke up in the Golden Peacock.
